Color is a property of light as seen by people. It’s the quality of an object or substance concerning light reflected by the object, usually determined visually by measurement of hue, saturation, and brightness of the reflected light.
As we now know that each color in a spectrum is associated with a specific wavelength of light. Which was found by Issac Newton at his first scientific experiments investigating the effect of colors can produce as stated in the history of color. Johann Wolfgang Goethe began studying the psychological impact of colors.
Goethe created a color wheel showing the psychological effect of each color. He divided all the colors into two groups. A plus sign could conventionally designate red, orange, and yellow. Green, blue, and violet could be the negative poles. Colors located on the plus side supposedly inspire feelings of excitement and cheerfulness, while colors found on the minus side were associated with weakness and unsettled feelings.
But the current form of color theory was developed by Johannes ltten, a Swiss color and art theorist who was teaching at the School of Applied Arts in Weimar, Germany. Johannes Itten augmented color chords and modified the color wheel. Itten’s color wheel is based on red, yellow, and blue colors as the primary triad and includes twelve additional hues.
And in nowadays, as we all know, from fashion designer to interior designer, color are the most important added to every design that the designer created. And however, it seems like trends come in and out of style before we get a chance to enjoy them. And just like most interior designers, they design beautiful interior for houses with the colors trend dominating every year.
2018 was all about bringing an edgier palette into the home, with vibrant reds, modern metallic, and variations of the statement black accent wall. And different than 2018, 2019 has taken more mindful, lifestyle-based approach to the development of new shades, from powerful aqua to soft terracotta, deep greens, and energizing corals. Each year every interior designer will connect the dots to embrace our new digital engagement, or directly tapping into the shift toward bolder design. These color picks are inspired by what ultimately matters most.
And if you believe in Feng Shui principles, the right Feng Shui use of colors can do wonders for your home. Most people find difficulty in choosing the right color for every room in their house. Selecting a room color is never an easy decision. Do the hues make you happy, or do they work with the size of the room, and do they flatter you? So, you might balk at Feng Shui as yet another consideration in the pain aisle.
We are all in love with color, and we all respond to color in more or less predictable ways. Feng Shui takes the use of color to the next level, where each color brings the desired Feng Shui energies to your home to create harmony and balance.
According to the Chinese Astrology, the lucky colors of the year of 2019, The Year of the Pig are red, white, pink, orange, white, and gray. Also, the specific colors of the Earth are brown and yellow. During the Year of the Pig, a trendy color is red, which symbolizes the Fire element. The Pig, which is the 12th zodiac sign from the Chinese calendar, has as a primary agent the Water element, represented by the blue color. And in a secondary energetic form, the Pig also wears Fire and Metal elements that are represented by red and white, which can serve as energy stabilizers.
And how can we find the right color for us? First, we have to know the core role of color in Feng Shui. “Color plays an enormous impact in Feng Shui because it has a certain vibration tone that chi picks up and distributes back out into the environment,” says Benko. “The right or wrong color choices can have a tremendous impact on your state of mind and how balanced you feel,” he added.
“Context is essential,” Frampton said. So while it’s helpful to know the technical principles, you should also consider how they’re going to work in a specific space. And that’s where the Feng Shui principle comes into play, and there is always a remedy to counterbalance something wrong.
When it comes to home design, many homeowners are looking for the best home color selection for a specific room in their house. But it is ok if you have colors idea you want to mix and match for your place that is different than the Feng Shui rule. It does not matter if you live in a mansion, townhouse, or even an apartment. You always need to find the right and perfect color that define you in every room you have in the place you live in.
The living room, as it is the first room that guests see upon entering, a living room that is clean and clutter-free, is the foundation for good. The challenge in decorating a living room is to create a space that is beautiful and practical while ensuring it has a healthy, fresh, clean, and radiant energy.
The color of wood Feng Shui element is ideal for the living room. Go with a neutral color warmth tone coordinate. Paint the wall in a plain Benjamin Moore’s linen color, have a barren dull marble for the floor covered with an abstract mix of brown and cream Turkish carpet, and put up another Moore color for the curtain, the Bleeker beige flowery curtain with a bronze curtain poles to match the wall, a vintage chandelier crystal with a perfect yellow bulb light to help creating a casual atmosphere throughout a home. The color of caramel for the living room furniture will create a stunning contrast, the long plain caramel sofa, one medium sofa, and one small sofa on the corner with the soft broken white flowery cushions on every couch, and also the bronze living room table with a small bouquet of fresh flower will make your living room feels so relaxing and could make your guests enjoy every moment they spend with you there.
And next to the living room, it is good to have an addition of a small guest toilet. I go with color coordinate that will match the living room itself. Paint the wall in Benjamin Moore’s stone house color, have a natural rustic color floor and go with a simple white toilet set and the sink with drawer under. Match the toilet set with bronze accessories like the toilet roll holder, and the soap and lotion holder. And also have some long-burning scented candle and magazine or books to make the guest feels comfortable and relax while in there.
After the living room and the guest toilet, The dining room is what I think the essential place in the house, and it is the room for every member of the family in the home gather in the morning before activity and at night after exercise to share the story and have a good meal. Adriana Trigaini once said, “Food was a celebration, conversation, and nourishment. The table is where the big decisions of the family are made, and all the arguing takes place”. The earth Feng Shui element dining rooms paint the wall with a tree branch rustic color. With sand trim and an extra white curtain to provide a soothing ambiance that’s perfect for leisurely dining. A cream vintage minimalist furniture for the dining room, and add walnut stain flooring covered with a plush sand-colored area rug to promote relaxation and calmness. And have the kitchen with a touch of antique white kitchen set and a white door on it, because the kitchen is the most used room in your house, so you want it to be a space you enjoy spending time in.
Most people think that living room is just the same as the family room, it has the same function, but some other people also think that a living room and a family room are two different things, different purpose, and both are needed in a house. The family room plays an essential role in any home, and it is a room where you go to relax and bond with friends and family in a casual, welcoming setting. So the design for the family room should bring your energy but still relaxing like the water Feng Shui element, it is the perfect design for a family room. Paint the wall in steel blue color, if there is a window, you can add a plain white curtain, and one letter L midnight blue sofa with a sapphire blue rug, and a lot of colorful small and big cushions all over the couch and the carpet. For the accessories, you can add a standing lamp on the corner, a simple modern staircase chandelier, and a big television with a complete stereo set to complete it as the go-to spot for so many activities.
The energy in your bedroom, which is the main bedroom of the house, has quite a bit of power over your health, as well as the flow of love in your life, both self-loves, as well as romantic love. The mix of metal and Feng Shui element are the best colors to use here. Paint the wall with the storm of gray pallet color, have the floor covered with a Kendall charcoal soft rug, and a touch of the plain white curtain with a metal curtain poles will make the room feels softer. Put the silver filigree frame king size bed in the middle with the two charcoal table on both side of the bed, and add a table lamp also in Kendall charcoal color.
On the way to the bathroom in your bedroom, if you live in a mansion, or even only in a townhouse, creating a pure mini or even big walking closet is always a good idea, for your self, or even for your spouse if you already married. A white wardrobe with mirror all over and some bright white light bulb on the ceiling is the perfect combination of your walking closet area, and it will give you the joy and energy while finding your best outfit of the days, because fashion gives you the chance to be yourself and express your personality.
When it comes to the bathroom design in the room, as we all spend a lot of time in our bathrooms, so it’s only right that we should make them into a simply gorgeous place to be. The earth Feng Shui element with the touch of sandy/earthy or light brown, cozy yet straightforward decoration is needed for the bathroom. The walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s white dove and a structure to an elegant bathroom with checkerboard-painted floorboards in Farrow & Ball’s All White. The tub should be a white oval tub placed on the corner facing the window with a white transparent curtain, and the glass box of the shower should come with a metal shower accessories. Have the white toilet and the white sink with tan bathroom storage to match the tub.
And last but not least, the spare room. It can be used for the children if you already have any, or for the guest. The extra room usually smaller than the main bedroom, but it also comes with a bathroom. The combination of wood and metal Feng Shui element is what I chose to have for the spare room. Paint the wall with beige paint, have the floor covered with the soft tan rug, and a pale ivory curtain with a bronze curtain holders will make a good ambiance for the room. Also, have a frame bed just like in the master bedroom, only here comes in a white queen size, and a standing lamp on the corner.
For the bathroom, it also will always be smaller than the main bathroom, but with the right decoration, it can make you feel comfortable while there. Paint the wall with a manchaster tan color, and rustic taupe color floor to match the wall. A white wall hung sink with a bathroom cabinet and white toilet next to it never goes out of style, and also have a white bathtub that comes with the bronze shower, and choose a dull white curtain match with the tub.
